Uswim Adventure is what we are all about and this week has seen fantastic people take on their challenges and succeed.
Monday 26th June was the start of the season for our Solo Guided swims seeing Audrey Hellen take on her first of 3 Lakes booked this year. An early start at Lake Coniston and stunning conditions for her swim. A wetsuit wearing Audrey completed her swim in just over 5 hours. A fabulous achievement and a great learning experience regarding preparation for her next Lake: Ullswater.
Tuesday we met with Ken Heathcote who had similar conditions in Lake Coniston. Ken, an 83-year-old gentleman, jumped in keen as a bean and was clearly on a mission. 3 hours 23 mins later and he was running out of the other end. His next challenge with Uswim is a 1-way Windermere. A great swim by a great guy.
Time for something a little different and part of important swim training was Friday's 2 Teams who took on a 2 Way Ullswater. Both teams are swimming the English Channel in the next couple of months, so this swim was a crucial one. It was not just about the swimming, but about team building, kit use, sighting to a boat, and swimming in the dark. Both Teams took their challenge seriously and were blessed with an amazing Lake. Both teams completed in just over 8 hours with just 10 minutes between them. Teamwork rocked that night.
Our final Guided swim this week was Martyn Webster, who flew from Switzerland to join us. This Channel swimmer took on a 2-way overnight Windermere in preparation for his Catalina Channel Swim later this year. What a night's swimming too. From start to finish, he was strong and determined with a fabulous pace throughout. He completed in 10 hours 40 minutes. Amazing achievement!
