Paul Worthington was back after hypothermia got the better of him last season. Being the lean mean fighting machine that he is, temperature regulation will always be a challenge. But on this day the sun was out and the temperature was 22 degrees.
Paul is a no messing type of swimmer and with a 2 Way Ullswater planned this was part of his training plan. Paul was steady from the start but was struggling swimming next to the boat and was going off course regularly.
Safety of the swimmer is always a priority and after a remarkable 9 hours of swimming the decision was made to end the swim. When the swimmer is slowing and unable to follow instructions, it's a sign of fatigue. With a further 3 hours to go at the current pace, Paul would be more at risk.
He was obviously gutted but has since reflected on his Marathon 9 Hour Swim and acknowledged the achievement. He will be back.
