An AWEsome Swim for Gareth Rees
An AWEsome Swim for Gareth Rees

A fabulous Monday sunrise and we were already a few miles along Loch Awe. 8th August, a water temperature of 16 degrees at the start and English Channel Solo Swimmer Gareth Rees had just settled into his 25 mile challenge. The first few hours was the worst we later learned but you would never have known this. Gareth was focused and strong until the very end.
Loch Awe is the longest body of water in the UK and Gareth had prepped well. Fair to say if you like trees this is the swim for you, as Loch Awe has a lot of them. It also has 5 castles dripping with history although you can’t always see them. The crew (well me) tried to break the monotony by doing dance routines on the boat and Gareth had to guess the song.. well we thought it was amusing.
Anyway check out the video below to get a taste of what 14 hours and 28 minutes and 25 miles of loch swimming looks like. Huge thank you to those who sponsored Gareth's swim raising money for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, a charity close to their hearts.
