Perfect Channel Relay Practice
Perfect Channel Relay Practice

On a wet day, this couple took on a 1-way Windermere as training for their English Channel Relay swim in a team of four in a few weeks. The focus was to follow Channel rules for changeovers and to learn about self-management on the boat—a very important part of relay swims and one which many forget. The pair are also raising money for the Bliss charity, following the premature birth of their daughter, who is now two years old.
This duo quickly learned that they had packed too much kit, forgotten some kit they could have done with, and recognized the need to be organized and maintain a tidy boat. They gained valuable experience throughout their swim, which will certainly make their Channel relay preparation much easier.
Towards the end of the swim, the wind picked up, and a strong crosswind added to what had been a nice, calm lake. This provided great practice for the sea, as being slapped in the face by the water made finding a rhythm difficult.
7 hours and 15 minutes later, they had completed their 1-way Windermere. Good luck with your Channel relay!
